what we do: introduction
We follow government guidelines and use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework and Guidance.  Using this document as a guide we plan for children’s play covering all six areas of learning and taking into account their particular interests and needs.  We choose a theme for each term and plan some of our activities and events around the theme.

We run a keyperson system, so that each keyperson can highlight the needs and interests of their keychildren and so that this can be taken into account in the planning.  We encourage children and parents to have an input into our planning and welcome any suggestions or ideas.

We also like to involve parents in their children’s developmental records and encourage them to fill in a ‘Good News From Home’ slip for us. (See the ‘Good News from Home’ page for more information on slips and an option to download one).  If you have any questions at any time relating to the EYFS or your child’s developmental records, then please come and see us.

As we have a very limited outside area, we regularly take the children to River School Playing fields, River Recreation Ground and Kersney Abbey in order to make the most of our wonderful environment.  As you can see from our daily routine, we have also introduced physical sessions on alternate days, that can be anything from dance inside when it is raining, to PE on the field.

Whilst we have a daily routine, outlined on the next page we remain flexible and regularly adapt it to suit the needs of the children and to make the most of unplanned opportunities.
