Admissions:
As stated in our admissions policy, we are an inclusive setting and welcome children from all backgrounds.  Once an admissions form has been received at the pre-school, it is kept until the child reaches 2yrs and 6months.  At this stage we will write to the parent and offer any sessions that are available.  As our admissions policy states, we prefer children starting at River Pre-school Playgroup to be ‘dry’ as we do not have facilities for changing nappies.  A full copy of our Admissions policy (part of our Equal Opportunities Policy) is available to view on this website and at the pre-school.  If you would like to register your child for a place at River Pre-school Playgroup, please fill in and return an application form. (Please click ‘admissions form’ to download now’ or available at the pre-school.)

Settling in:
Most parents are anxious when their child starts pre-school for the first time, and may worry about how their child will settle.   At River Pre-school Playgroup we adopt a flexible approach to settling and work with parents to find a way that most suits the needs of the child.  Before a child starts at the pre-school we encourage the parent/carer to visit us, get to know the staff and some of the other children and the routine.  We recognise parents as the first and most important educators of their children and aim to work in partnership with them during the pre-school years.

Policies and Procedures:
We ask all parents/carers to read our Policies and Procedures, found on this website and on the Parent Information Board at the Pre-school.  These are updated annually and adopted at the Committee AGM.  We welcome any comments or suggestions and will advise parents if any changes are made at other times throughout the year.

Clothing:
Play clothes should be worn for playgroup sessions.  Many of our activities are messy and it is better for children not to be inhibited by instructions to “keep clean”.  Wherever possible, clothing should be of the kind that children can manage easily for themselves, i.e. elasticised trousers, sleeves that push up for hand washing and sensible shoes.
PLEASE NAME ALL REMOVABLE CLOTHING – coats, cardigans, wellies.
We have pre-school polo shirts for sale.  Please ask a member of staff.
