We offer a programme of activities leading to nationally approved learning
outcomes that prepares children to progress to the National Curriculum at
5 years.
Language and literacy; Children are encouraged to extend their vocabulary and fluency by talking and
listening, individually, and with other children in small and large groups. Books are available on many topics, as well as story books, and a member of
staff is available to read and assist the children in learning about the use of
the written word. Drawing, coping, tracing and writing activities are available as appropriate.
Mathematics; Children become aware through play, rhymes, songs, jigsaws, puzzles, beads and
threading etc, of basic mathematical concepts such as size, position, colour,
shape and progress to recognition and use of number symbols.
Knowledge and understanding of the world; A safe and stimulating environment allows children to explore and experiment
with a range of natural and manufactured materials. The playgroup also takes the children on occasional trips around the local area,
this gives the children an idea of space and how they fit into the world. They learn to observe the features of objects and substances, recognising
differences, patterns and similarities, and to share, discuss and record their
findings, using appropriate language.
